JJK's Coolest Cursed Techniques That Aren't Anime Adapted— Yet (2024)

This article contains spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, available to read in English via Viz Media and Shonen Jump.

One of the most exciting series in the modern shonen landscape, Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen is commonly praised for its explosive, tense battles and the inventive magic system that makes them possible. Sorcerers in JJK utilize cursed energy, a naturally occurring power source generated by people’s negative emotions, to infuse it into different objects, weapons, and, most commonly, techniques. From support skills like the healing reverse cursed technique to trapping and protective abilities like the various barrier techniques, sorcery can take diverse forms in JJK, which makes it such a fascinating power system.

Yet, the most exciting form of magic in the series has to be the innate techniques unique to every powerful sorcerer. So far, the anime has revealed plenty of incredible cursed techniques, with Gojo’s overpowered Limitless and Six Eyes combo, Inumaki’s versatile Cursed Speech, and Mahito’s formidable Idle Transfiguration being some of the series’ coolest skills. Nevertheless, many of JJK’s most incredible cursed techniques are yet to debut in the anime.

10 Reggie Star’s Contractual Re-Creation Gives Its User an Unlimited Arsenal

Debut

Chapter 168

Notable Fights

Megumi Fushiguro vs. Reggie Star

Despite being a relatively minor antagonist in the Culling Game arc, the incarnated sorcerer Reggie Star made quite an impression on fans with his quirky technique. Condescending and overconfident, Reggie has a transactional technique to match his attitude - Contractual Re-Creation. This power allows Reggie to manifest objects and concepts by using contracts, such as receipts, and extinguishing them with cursed energy.

Once manifested, the objects can be commanded and wielded similarly to shikigami. From knives to cars to more abstract ideas like a spa treatment, Reggie’s technique is one of the series’ most versatile powers, limited only by the user’s imagination and available stores of contracts. Regrettably, the readers only get a small glimpse of Contractual Re-Creation’s potential during Reggie’s fight with Megumi.

Every Special Grade Sorcerer In Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen is one of Shonen Jump's Dark Trio series that's full of deadly jujutsu sorcerers, but some curse energy users put the rest to shame!

Debut

Chapter 205

Notable Fights

Yuki Tsukumo & Choso vs. Kenjaku

Considered one of the four registered special grade sorcerers of the modern era, Yuki Tsukumo is purposefully secretive about her abilities and techniques. However, even she decided to give the heroes a helping hand in the strife to stop Kenjaku. The innate technique that earned Yuki the status of a special grade is Star Rage, a mass manipulation power with enormous destructive potential.

Star Rage allows Yuki to assign practical mass to herself or her shikigami, Garuda, exponentially increasing the power of the sorcerer’s strikes. While Yuki is unaffected by the mass she adds to herself, her opponents feel it in every punch and can even be physically weighed down if Yuki holds onto them. However, Yuki’s ability truly becomes special-grade-worthy when her virtual mass crosses a certain threshold, creating a black hole.

8 Takako Uro’s Sky Manipulation Transforms the Atmosphere into Her Playground

JJK's Coolest Cursed Techniques That Aren't Anime Adapted— Yet (3)

Debut

Chapter 173

Notable Fights

Yuta Okkotsu vs. Takako Uro vs. Ryu Ishigori

One of the ancient sorcerers incarnated by Kenjaku to participate in the Culling Game, Takako Uro used to be an assassin in her previous life, and her ferocious, bloodthirsty personality carried over when she was reborn in the modern era. Her cursed technique, Sky Manipulation, works perfectly with her previous occupation, as it possesses both immense offensive power and beneficial stealth properties.

Despite its simple name, Sky Manipulation is a relatively unorthodox technique. It allows Takako to manipulate the surface of the sky as if it were akin to a piece of cloth, distorting the space intangible to others. She can also “break” the sky’s surface, causing damage to her opponents with the shockwave. Although Takako has only participated in one fight against Yuta Okkotsu, her technique was unique enough to leave a lasting impression.

7 Yuta Okkotsu’s Copy Allows Him To Use Anyone’s Powers

Debut

Jujutsu Kaisen 0

Notable Fights

Yuta Okkotsu vs. Kurourushi, Yuta Okkotsu vs. Sukuna

While anime watchers have seen some of Yuta Okkotsu’s powers in the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie, his true technique has not been properly explained and demonstrated until much later. A special grade sorcerer believed to be capable of surpassing Satoru Gojo, Yuta relies on the abilities of a cursed spirit, Rika, in battle. A spirit with immeasurable cursed energy, Rika assists Yuta in many ways, from storing cursed weapons to using her physical strength in combat.

However, Rika's most advanced technique is Copy, an incredibly versatile and useful power that lets Yuta reproduce others’ innate techniques. Outside a five-minute time limit of active use, Yuta’s Copy is a nearly invincible ability; the skills he can replicate could be even as powerful as Kenjaku’s body-swapping technique or Gojo’s Limitless.

6 Hiromi Higuruma’s Judgeman Can Strip Any Sorcerer of Their Powers

Debut

Chapter 159

Notable Fights

Hiromi Higuruma vs. Itadori Yuji, Hiromi Higuruma vs. Sukuna

A former attorney with a keen sense of justice, Hitomi Higuruma awakened to an extremely fitting technique when he entered the Culling Game. His sorcery relies on the use of a shikigami, Judgeman — yet, the way Higuruma can utilize his ability differs drastically from other shikigami, users like Megumi or Yuki. Higuruma’s technique is innately tied to his domain expansion, Deadly Sentencing, which puts his opponent on trial with Higuruma as the prosecutor.

If found guilty, the defendant can face punishments of varying intensity, with cursed technique Confiscation and Death Penalty via the Executioner's Sword being the most severe. Of all the cursed techniques in JJK, Higuruma’s is arguably the most unusual and tense to watch in action, despite its non-violent nature.

Debut

Chapter 154

Notable Fights

Megumi Fushiguro & Panda vs. Kirara Hoshi

As a power system, cursed energy allows for the existence of both straightforward strength-oriented abilities and more conceptual, convoluted skills that, despite their complexity, make for some of the series’ most creative fights. Kirara Hoshi’s Love Rendezvous is one such technique. Using the Southern Cross constellation motif, their technique marks sorcerers and objects with one of the five stars in the cluster.

The marked targets are then prevented from approaching each other outside a specific alignment, lest they be pulled towards objects with the same star mark. A difficult-to-grasp technique, Love Rendezvous compensates for its lack of combat potential by disorienting opponents, resulting in Kirara’s fight against Megumi and Panda having a distinctive mystery feel to it.

4 The Angel’s Technique Extinguishment Can Potentially End Any Curse

JJK's Coolest Cursed Techniques That Aren't Anime Adapted— Yet (6)

Debut

Chapter 213

Notable Fights

Hana Kurusu vs. Sukuna

Incarnated into the body of Hana Kurusu, the ancient sorcerer Angel maintains an odd, mutually beneficial relationship with her host. As such, the Angel granted Hana access to her incredible ability — Technique Extinguishment. The Angel’s ultimate goal in the Culling Game was to eliminate all other incarnated sorcerers, including Sukuna — and Technique Extinguishment might’ve been one of the few skills actually capable of achieving that objective.

Technique Extinguishment and its ultimate form, Jacob’s Ladder, are capable of nullifying all cursed energy, which includes exercising cursed spirits, destroying barriers, and annihilating cursed objects. An incredibly overpowered technique, the Angel’s ability was prevented from being used at full capacity, as Hana was severely injured by Sukuna and couldn’t continue fighting in the Shinjuku Showdown.

Debut

Chapter 168

Notable Fights

Fumihiko Takaba vs. Iori Hazenoki, Fumihiko Takaba vs. Kenjaku

Awakened within a failing humorist, Fumihiko Takaba, Comedian is often considered by fans to be a joke of a technique. However, its sheer potential cannot be denied, as Takaba’s ability has the power to limitlessly alter reality itself. Comedian is a cursed technique that makes anything Takaba finds funny manifest in existence, no matter how unbelievable or ridiculous the joke may be.

Fortunately for Takaba’s opponents, the amateur sorcerer doesn’t quite understand his technique himself, limiting Comedian’s destructive powers. However, Takaba’s instinctual use of Comedian was still enough to overwhelm such a formidable sorcerer as Kenjaku, with Takaba defeating the immortal sorcerer in one of JJK’s funniest battles.

2 Ui Ui’s Spatial Transference Is an Unexpectedly Useful Support Skill

JJK's Coolest Cursed Techniques That Aren't Anime Adapted— Yet (7)

Debut

Chapter 261

Notable Fights

Jujutsu Sorcerers vs. Sukuna

Upon his introduction in the Shibuya Incident arc, Mei Mei’s younger brother, Ui Ui, didn’t stand out much and acted mostly as his sister’s inconspicuous supporter. However, the Shinjuku Showdown arc really showcased how essential Ui Ui’s technique can be in life-or-death situations. The boy’s Spatial Transference allows him to teleport himself and others to marked locations.

During the Sukuna fight, Ui Ui’s technique was crucial in getting injured sorcerers from the battlefield, saving many lives in the process. However, Spatial Transference also has another power to switch people’s souls, essentially resulting in mutual possession. An unexpectedly practical ability, Spatial Transference turned out to be the heroes’ ace in the hole during the Sukuna battle.

1 Kinji Hakari’s Private Pure Love Train Is Hilariously Convoluted Yet Endlessly Powerful

Debut

Chapter 182

Notable Fights

Kinji Hakari vs. Charles Bernard, Kinji Hakari vs. Hajime Kashimo

A fan-favorite hero yet to debut in the anime, Kinji Hakari earned the readers’ love in no small part due to his engaging cursed technique, Private Pure Love Train. A man of feverish passion, Hakari possesses a pachinko-themed domain expansion, Idle Death Gamble, that forces his opponent to participate in a lethal game of luck. Extremely convoluted in its rules, Idle Death Gamble requires Hakari to hit a jackpot in a shojo manga-inspired pachinko game.

Despite only having a 1/239 chance of doing so, Hakari consistently demonstrates his ridiculous luck when expanding his domain. Upon hitting the jackpot, Hakari becomes immortal for four minutes and eleven seconds. Intense yet humorous, Hakari’s ability is one of JJK’s most creative, and fans can’t wait to see it in action in future anime seasons.
