Edward Coventry (2024)

Edward Coventry was a main character on the Netflix original series The Order. He was portrayed by Max Martini.

Edward Coventry was Jack's estranged father and the leader of The Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose.

Background[]

Edward used to be a poor man without a future who managed to rise to wealth by his efforts and through magic. At some point, he was the Temple Magus of the Belgrave division of The Order, before being promoted to Grand Magus.

Edward had throughout his life the ambition to obtain the Vade Maecum Infernal and use its power to recreate the world.

At some point, he was involved with a woman named Chloe Morton, whom he made pregnant without his knowledge. Edward was in some way responsible for Chloe's death, causing Chloe's father and son to hate him for the rest of their lives.

Edward finally was married to a woman named Sophie Coventry, with whom he had his son Maddox. However, Sophie died as a sacrifice in one of Edward's attempts to get the Vade Maecum.

Personality[]

At first glance, Edward is shown as a kind, understanding and encouraging man. He has a natural charm that makes almost everyone, especially women, love and trust him completely to the point of linking their lives to him. However, Edward is a selfish, greedy and evil man with the desire to take over the world for his ideals. He is extremely ambitious, eager for power and dedicated to The Order, but it shows that he is enraged when other high officials do not follow his path. Although loyal to The Order, Edward has no regard for punishing those who break the rules and does not hesitate to manipulate those around him to achieve his goals.

After joining with the Vade Maecum Infernal, Edward's personality darkens enormously as well as his obsession with the destruction of the world. He becomes capable of killing those who stand in his way without hesitation, including his beloved son.

Powers and Abilities[]

As the Grand Magus of The Order, Edward was the most powerful magic user seen. He has shown incredible power allowing him to achieve feats such as turning lead to gold and acting as Alyssa‘s anchor when he helped project her into someone‘s mind. He is also very adept a healing spells allowing him to pay price after price for each spell he cast without needing to stop.

After making a pact with The Vade Maecum he grew even more powerful allow in him to perform devastating acts of magic without paying a price. He could transmute a bullet into a blue rose and blast an energy shockwave that destroyed Pete Morton’s body, it should be noted he did all this without performing a single incantation. To keep all this power however Edward would have had to sacrifice his son which would have been Jack Morton, but due to this plan failing Edward became trapped inside the Vade Maecum.

Due to years of practicing magic, Edward has a high pain tolerance. He was able to light his hand on fire and barely flinch at the pain. He is also very fluent in Latin as it is required for basic magic.
